The G7 countries have finalized a side-by-side tax agreement following the US administration's decision to repeal Section 899 from its tax and spending package. Known as the 'revenge tax,' this provision had targeted nations with tax systems deemed unfair by Washington, potentially triggering retaliatory measures.

With Section 899 removed, the path cleared for broader consensus. 'We recognize that the removal of Section 899 is crucial to this overall understanding and to providing a more stable environment for discussions,' stated G7 leaders. The agreement includes coordinated support for the US position in upcoming G20 and OECD negotiations on global corporate taxation.

UK businesses are among the first beneficiaries, having operated under uncertainty since the clause's introduction in the Trump-era tax bill. The resolution brings much-needed predictability to international tax structures—a foundational element for cross-border commerce and investment flows.
